| NTFS drive not mounting in OS X Am trying to mount a Maxtor Quickview 160GB hd formatted in NTFS on mac OS X 10.4.10. DiskUtil sees the disk, but for some reason the drive will not mount. I have included the command and response: sudo /usr/local/bin/ntfs-3g /dev/disk2 /Volumes/'Windows' Password: NTFS signature is missing. Failed to startup volume: Invalid argument Failed to mount '/dev/disk2': Invalid argument The device '/dev/disk2' doesn't have a valid NTFS. Maybe you selected the wrong device? Or the whole disk instead of a partition (e.g. /dev/hda, not /dev/hda1)? Or the other way around? any ideas? (also am not able to perform fdisk - error msg: not a character device or a regular file thanks!

| NTFS drive not mounting in OS X /dev/disk2 doesn't have NTFS. You're quite probably trying to mount the wrong device.
| Fri Aug 10, 2007 11:29 | I'm pretty sure this is the correct device. Now on /dev/disk1: diskutil info /dev/disk1 Device Node: /dev/disk1 Device Identifier: disk1 Mount Point: Volume Name: Partition Type: FDisk_partition_scheme Bootable: Not bootable Media Type: Generic Protocol: USB SMART Status: Not Supported Total Size: 152.7 GB Free Space: 0.0 B Read Only: No Ejectable: Yes OS 9 Drivers: No Low Level Format: Not Supported and I get the same result: sudo /usr/local/bin/ntfs-3g /dev/disk1 /Volumes/'Windows' NTFS signature is missing. Failed to startup volume: Invalid argument Failed to mount '/dev/disk1': Invalid argument The device '/dev/disk1' doesn't have a valid NTFS. Maybe you selected the wrong device? Or the whole disk instead of a partition (e.g. /dev/hda, not /dev/hda1)? Or the other way around? This drive works in Windows XP, says that it is formatted in NTFS. Seems like a vanilla setup. Why would this not work? Thanks.
| Mon Aug 13, 2007 17:52 | you are trying to mount the whole disk. You need to specify the partition: http://forum.ntfs-3g.org/viewtopic.php?t=590 /dev/diskxsx
where x is an integer value
| Mon Aug 13, 2007 23:09 | I tried /dev/disk1s1 as well and I get the same error. Here is the partition info: diskutil list /dev/disk0 #: type name size identifier 0: Apple_partition_scheme *93.2 GB disk0 1: Apple_partition_map 31.5 KB disk0s1 2: Apple_HFS Macintosh HD 93.0 GB disk0s3 /dev/disk1 #: type name size identifier 0: FDisk_partition_scheme *152.7 GB disk1 1: 7.8 GB disk1s1 What worries me is that there is no partition for the 152.7GB that are on the disk. This drive works on WindowsXP, though, so I'm not sure why it won't work here.

You're quite probably trying to. Oct 14, 2019 “ NTFS-3G could not mount ” becomes a nightmare error since the number of mac users using NTFS-3G, the only free NTFS driver, increases steadily. Look at the following article to see the causes and solutions to fix. Microsoft NTFS for Mac by Tuxera brings reliable read-write compatibility for all NTFS-formatted USB drives on your Mac. Hello everyone that can help out. Since last year I upgraded to High Sierra, didn't feel like upgrading since I can no longer update any further. Started to notice strange stuff, eventually last year my external hard drive crashed (not sure if it was formated osx journaled or NTFS): failed to mount...dies. I accidently pulled the wrong usb drive after ejecting. my computer didn't want to shutdown after that, had to brute force it. Completly removed old NTFS apps such as I believe I had old versions of Tuxera/paragon/segate ntfs. Had a hard time trying find files through spotlight search, fixed it eventually. I believe segate ntfs mounting app in Finder made my icons sliced apperanced, which I found irritating, fixed it.
okay now in 2020, in isolation have very little money, a good amount of groceries.
Deleted old hard drive converted to exfat (from mac) send it into Bootcamp, formated hard drive to NTFS. Tested a small handfull of data files (jpg, png, mov, psd, pdf, img, doc, etc). Had a hard time ejecting usb drives, weird experience: not the best solution. Booted up through mac mounted usb drive and checked thinking my files are not able to open view at all or gone forever, error message. Went back into windows and my files were just fine, nothing gone.
Did anyone run into the same issues as me, your solutions? What's your solution to NTFS read and write? Is their any cons with exfat. Also am I in the right thread or where should I post this?
The more I look into Paragon makes me weary of their software cause it is linked towards Russia plus China. Years ago I had NTFS-3G worked fine back then, which is now Tuxera. I just can't purchase it right now or if its any good especially on High Sierra?
Windows solution: open up device manager select drive name 'uninstall' to eject drive.
Windows 10 message: please close windows and app before ejecting drive ('problem ejecting usb mass storage device')
Mac OSX Message: Photos or video can't open ('item 'earth_landscapes.jpg' is used by mac os and can't be opened')
Possibly the best solution is formatting some usb drives to exfat for windows and others osx journaled.
I work on Both Mac and windows 10 Pro: cause of software work.
iMac specs: High Sierra v10.13.6 mid 2011 20gb, AMD 512 mb... yeah I know I need a new computer
NTFS Apps: Mounty (v1.9 (13)), OSX FUSE (v3.10.2).

Tuxera Ntfs For Mac Cracked
Another thing to note is that the instructions, as returned when ntfs-3g fails to mount, doesn't fully apply to Mac OS X. For instance: /etc/fstab is not used on Mac OS X. It doesn't even exist on my Mac OS X system. So that instruction is completely unsupported. Mar 06, 2016 “Tuxera NTFS could not mount” error is a nightmare such the dead blue screen problem in Windows. Look at the following solution to fix. Recognize the error. This error is now more common since the number of mac users using Tuxera NTFS increase steadily. Normally, it actually happens when Tuxera users try to mount the driver under NTFS format.
